Common Mementos

Photographs of George Tice’s continued exploration of the urban landscape.

“Common Mementos is akin to a short story, a short film, an essay. It is my attempt to define and interpret the New Jersey with which I was familiar. I think of it as a journey in time as well as place. ”

Ticetown

“In these photographs made between 1992 and 1998, the celebrated photographer George Tice explores his family's three-hundred-year history in America. Entitled Ticetown, after the farming community where the family lived, the photographs do more than document family history. They take us back in time and recall an agrarian way of life that is quickly disappearing in New Jersey. As arranged by the artist they subtly present the theme of a life cycle.”

Joseph F. Jacobs, co-author, Janson's History of Art
